A security researcher has discovered a security hole in Apple laptop batteries that can be used to take over the microchips that control the battery functions and also implant malware. The researcher plans to detail the exploit and introduce a fix for the problem at the Black Hat Security Conference the first week of August in Las Vegas. Thanks to Jeffrey Struss for the linkage.
Few IT administrators would think to check a battery's firmware for the source of that infection, and if undiscovered the chip could re-infect the computer again and again.
